Browser Hack!

My kids stumbled upon the above website after mistyping the web address of their homework site.

They were very frightened especially because not only did the site suggest that our information had been compromised but it had a prerecorded audio message. The audio message repeatedly said “Microsoft has received a warning that your computer has been hacked, call the number on the screen to recover your banking information, credit…etc. data now.”

I happened to be home. I overheard to warning audio message and realized it did not add up. A closer look at the website, I noticed it is a ‘clone’ and not a genuine Microsoft website. I told the kids to close the site and the look on their faces ‘spoke a million words.’

To cut the story short, I closed the side, checked to see the antivirus was still active, restarted the laptop and gave it back to the kids to do their home. I explained to them, that the site was a fake and only trying to extort dollars from unsuspecting users.

It was nothing more than a fake website meant to rip users $$$. (That phone number…from another continent!?)

What do I dream about?

Being a parent is certainly a responsibility that comes with a lot of joys and occasional sorrows. Indeed like a special person in my life put it…it’s a life sentence. Simply said, once a parent always a parent!

We have a six year old daughter who has filled out lives with much joy and happiness. Furthermore, there is a level of simplicity in her that is amazing. Among her daily list of to do things include giving mommy and daddy a kiss in the morning and before she goes to bed. In addition, every night before going to bed, she asked mommy or daddy what to dream about.

What gets me most is the fact that, she gets out of bed to come ask for a topic to dream about incase she forgot to do so before going to bed. How wonderful it would be to choose our own dreams?

Online Games

As parents, desiring the very best for our children comes as no surprise. Consequently, we have strived to provide them with electronics so as to meet their school and entertainment needs. We are in a digital age, and often the kids have research, homework and projects to do online. Every now and then, they even have to submit their homework via online…meaning we had to get them an email address.

This ‘online exploration’ has bought on another dilemma…online games. Unlike Video games which one could easily disconnect the device, online games are a breeze and browser away. O! Now we noticed the kids even have made online profiles for their gaming sites.

Aware of the fact that it will be fruitless to fight about the online games, we have resulted to educating them about being ‘digital smart.’ We also challenged them to create their own digital games.
