Our 13 year old daughter an avid reader happened to read The Power by Rhonda Byrne. Well, she desired to have her own laptop, especially given that she is about to graduate 8th grade and go to high school (a boarding high school I hope) in September.
About a month ago, (March 26th) she had a trip to the pediatrician/hospital that turned into an emergency. As she was being transferred to a specialized hospital to treat her heart condition, one nurse gave her a Rubiks cube as a ‘goodbye’ gift (they thought she was dying). It was such a nice gesture.
Fast forward, we got to the specialized hospital and as she was undergoing a series of tests, she started working on the Rubiks cube. I noticed after a couple attempts she was getting discouraged. So I made her a bet, $100 dollars to solve it…
Surprisingly, she was like “Daddy, it has 6 sides, $100 for each side!” Without giving much thought I agreed on condition that she solved it, and could use whatever the resource she wanted but not give it to someone else to solve it.
What I did not budget on was that she was going to cooperate with her younger brother, a tech wiz. When he heard the deal during a visit to see her in the hospital, he immediately had a plan. He would go back home, download an app, which he bought back to his sister on the following hospital visit.
Believe me, the Rubiks was solved…I was $600 dollar in the hole. But what daddy fails to keep his word or promise to his kid(s)? Certainly was not going to be me. She said, ‘for that money, get me a laptop. I want a 2 in 1 kind, HP, etc.’ She went online and showed me the kind she wanted. I went online and got her something a little better than her choice.
Upon our discharged and return home, she had a good amount of cleaning up to do in her room. She came across a cut out of the picture of the laptop she wanted, which she had cut out from a magazine and stuck it to the wall in her room.
Believe or not! It was exactly what I had bought for her…she came out shouting, “Daddy! Daddy, The Power worked! It worked! You bought me the exact laptop I had wanted.”
I was pleasantly surprised too, but, it’s true, The Power, does work…get yourself a copy today, read it and put it to practice…you surely will be glad.
